Full Description

The recent boom in digital camera sales has created a tremendous demand for simple yet powerful photo-editing software. This is because experienced users, as well as amateurs, are quickly outgrowing the program that was originally bundled with their cameras. Fortunately, Photoshop Elements 3, the latest photo-editing software from Adobe, is filling this void. It allows users to achieve high-quality results without the overwhelming complexity of professional-level software. And it's also affordable. As a result, it is the best-selling photo-editing software on the market today. Yet, while Photoshop Elements 3.0 seems to have everything going in its favor, it is missing one very important element: a manual that explains all of its incredible capabilities. To help consumers truly understand this software, there's now Photoshop Elements 3: The Missing Manual. This comprehensive guide from Barbarba Brundage offers page after page of valuable insight into this popular program, making it the only book readers will need on the topic. Photoshop Elements 3: The Missing Manual does a whole lot more than just point out how to straighten photos, crop, and adjust the color and focus. It's a collection of wonderful tips and tricks, from how to make basic selections to advanced color correction strategies, and from classic darkroom techniques to stylized digital effects. Each feature is carefully explained in easy-to-understand language, so that everyone from professional shooters to hobbyists can benefit. Among other lessons, readers will learn how to:
  • Instantly fix flaws using Elements' Quick Fix mode
  • Gain control with sliders, zoom tools, and before and after views
  • Easily organize photos by calendar or keyword label
  • Make dynamic slide shows with transitions, captions, music, and narration
  • Create themed photo email
Whether you're a hobbyist or a professional photographer, Photoshop Elements 3: The Missing Manual will help you become a more efficient, sophisticated digital camera user.

Repeating what Ferguson said. As an amateur photog with semi-professional aspiratons who loves my Nikon digital camera, I'm finding this book exactly what I needed.

You would think TMM and I were attached at the hip. Everytime I sit down at the computer to edit my photgraphs, you can bet TMM is sitting on my desk for ready reference. I was really at a loss after getting my Photoshop Elements 3 program a couple of weeks ago. The operating instructions that comes with the program provided little help for this non-nerd. TMM came to the rescue. The easy to understand and non-technical information in this book has made my photo editing efforts a breeze. I look forward to each day learning something more about Photoshop Elements 3 with the help of TMM. I am about 1]4 of the way through the book and am anxiously looking to finishing the book so that I can realize the full benefits of the Photoelemets 3 program.

I have only had the book a few days and the software for only a week. I was a Version 2 user for quite a while and decided to have a look see at what it was about. I like a number of things better than Version 2. The scan and fix multiple photos is a great feature. The new shadows and highlights fix is one I am using a lot and find this a great fast fix tool. I had already purchased a differing book last week but found it lacking.

After a good hour of looking thru the Missing Manual one I said THIS is the one I SHOULD have purchased first! Easy to understand, easy to find the parts I need, and written so non nerds can figure out what is being said and instructed. Many thanks for making digital photograph editing not so mysterious and now fun again.

Media reviews
"Since Adobe abandoned providing a written manual following Version 2, Brundage's book not only fills the missing manual need but also, provides an expanded guide with a wealth of helpful hints not found in most manuals. Adobe should use Brundage's style for any future manual they might provide, if they change their mind...I consider my self a knowledgeable Elements and Photoshop editing user but have to admit I picked up some interesting tricks going through this book. It should be a must for any serious user of Elements."
-- Milt Kostner, Silicon Valley Computer Society

"One of the beauties of the Missing Manuals is that there is always something new to discover and the research is quite thorough...I kept finding snippets of information, in the way of Tips or Notes, that would give just that bit extra."
-- Graham K. Rogers, Bangkok Post

"This title is an excellent manual for users at all levels, making good use of full-colour images to support the clearly written text. It covers all features, the technical detail is well presented, and information is easy to find."
-- Major Keary, PC Update

"If you use Elements are are looking for a proper manual, this is thorough, comprehensive, authoritative, and well illustrated in full colour...The technical depth is excellent, information is easy to find, and the overall presentation is exceptional."
-- Major Keary, Book Notes

"There are a lot of good books, but I keep returning to the Missing Manual series because they are inexpensive, easy to read and full of cool tricks and tips."
-- Bob Brooks, The South Bay Apple Mac User Group

"I have reviewed quite a number of Missing Manual books and I am always impressed with them. David Pogue is a Mac master and the depth of his knowledge shines through."
-- Roger Bernau, ACT Apple User Group Incorporated

"What Elements really needs is a decent manual that covers everything, explains the whys and wherefores and does it in a way that won't frighten your average user. With that in mind, Barbara Brundage has written a book that aims to do just that. What I particularly liked was the attention to detail. Most functions provide a myriad of options and icons including many I hadn't even noticed before. Now I know what they do and why I'd want to use them...There are a lot of Photoshop Elements 3 books out there and several you may well want to buy. However, this is the one you need to buy first. Recommended, especially at this price."
--Iain Laskey, Practical PC, July 2005

"This book is true to the great reputation of the Missing Manual Series."
----Victoria Maciulski, CVMUG, July 2005

"There is a definite need for Photoshop Elements 3: The Missing Manual, the latest such entry in the series of 'Missing Manuals' published by O'Reilly Media,Inc./Pogue Press. This series, in my opinion, is the benchmark for applications manuals, better than virtually any OEM-provided manual (rare these days, except for online hypertext versions) and more than mere manuals. This book continues the series themes of not only describing and explaining the subject application's features but in providing technical background guidance on its particular subject areas. Here it is how and why to edit photos, the concepts behind taking and making better photos, user-level insights on what works best, all wrapped in a casual writing style with some humor."
--John Suda, Apple Cider User Group, May 2005
