PDF description
This eDocument seeks to actually evaluate the new new features introduced in Oracle 9i Release 2, rather than just list them and tell you how wonderful they are (we have marketing brochures for that). Plenty of practical, worked examples are used to demonstrate each new capability, and each is then assessed for its pros and cons. The aim throughout has been to enable readers to repeat the tests for themselves, and thereby perform their own discovery of the huge advances in functionality that 9i Release 2 brings. The material is "10g aware", and points out where further enhancements and functionality are made available in that version.

I recently downloaded this and was very satisfied.
I see 9i and 10g as being complementary releases, in other words the enhancements that the market wouldn't wait for in 9i, were put into 10g instead. My hunch is the timing was market-driven, not technology-driven.
So, for the workaday DBA, I think any kind of "upgrade" learning needs to consolidate both 9i and 10g features that you didn't really have time to get to in the first go-round. This book covers the "best of" 9i that you should also be taking advantage of in 10g, if not already.
At the price, (download PDF) it's impossible to see how this is not worth the time to buy and read.
Excellent,

This ebook is wonderful!
The worked examples are worth stacks of words on their own, but the explanations are mercifully clear, nicely thought out and (perhaps most important) helpful. I really feel I'm well on the way to understanding what Oracle is all about now, having read this. And unlike some books I've read, the worked examples actually work!
I'm surely not the only person to have purchased this work... I honestly can't think why no-one else has bothered reviewing this. Is it because 'electronic books' don't 'count' as much as real ones? Anyone that thinks like that is missing out here: Mr Roger's book is better than almost anything I've ever bought in a 'real' bookshop.
I hope the author is working on a similar work for Oracle 10g!
