Full Description

Introduced by Apple in January 2005, iWork '05 is an innovative new suite of document and presentation software that's the same caliber as Apple's groundbreaking digital media applications and that's wholly dedicated to what Mac users like you care about most: artistry and creativity. iWork '05 isn't about "office productivity"--it's about creating slick and stylish documents and cinema-quality digital presentations that say precisely what you want them to say.

While iWork '05 helps you create stunning documents and presentations, the suite doesn't come with any in-depth documentation of its own. That's where iWork '05: The Missing Manual comes in. The book that should have been in the box, it gives you everything you need to master iWork '05.

Seamlessly integrated with the wildly popular iLife '05 and designed to take advantage of the advanced typography and graphics engine of Mac OS X, iWork is actually two separate programs: Pages and Keynote 2. Pages is a brand-new, streamlined word processor and page layout program that allows nonprofessionals to quickly and painlessly produce gorgeous brochures, newsletters, letters, invitations, product data sheets, and more. You can start documents from scratch or use one of the 40 professionally designed templates as a starting point. Keynote 2 is a significant upgrade to Keynote, Apple's PowerPoint-like presentation software that allows you to build unique presentations, demonstrations, storyboard animations, interactive slideshows, and more.

Like every Missing Manual, this one is refreshingly entertaining and scrupulously detailed. iWork '05: The Missing Manual gives you all the essentials of Pages and Keynote 2, including an objective look at each program's capabilities, its advantages over similar programs, and its limitations. The book delivers countless goodies that you won't find anywhere else: undocumented tips, tricks, and secrets for getting the very best results from both exciting new applications.

With the iWork '05 suite and iWork '05: The Missing Manual, you are totally equipped to give your work the style it deserves.

I have finished reading the Keynote portion in the book and I have found it very informative. I will now be able to make better prepare and make presentations in the future using Keynote.

But one question remains unanswered. When will the IWork '06 be available? I am hoping before IWorks '07 makes it to the store.

"One of the beauties of the Missing Manuals is that there is always something new to discover and the research is quite thorough...I kept finding snippets of information, in the way of Tips or Notes, that would give just that bit extra."
-- Graham K. Rogers, Bangkok Post

"As with my other Missing Manuals, I found that the Index sent me directly to the page(s) dealing with the essentials needed in the layout I’m creating...Jim did a fantastic job of including basics for beginners without boring the more advanced...I highly recommend iWork’05, The Missing Manual to both beginners and advanced MAC Users using Pages and Keynote."
-- Carole Dadino, Main Line Macintosh Users Group (MLMUG)

"The book gives step-by-step instructions on how to substitute your own graphics and text for those in the templates. It even shows how to create your own templates, either by modifying those in the program, or starting from scratch...If you’re just getting started with Pages, or if you’ve only dabbled in it, this Missing Manual is an excellent resource in learning about the program’s many features."
-- Tom Reed, Mouse Tales

"There are a lot of good books, but I keep returning to the Missing Manual series because they are inexpensive, easy to read and full of cool tricks and tips."
-- Bob Brooks, The South Bay Apple Mac User Group

"I have never seen a manual for any program, hardware or OS which is anywhere close to this series in its helpfulness to the reader. Anyone other than the well trained techs can find this book valuable."
-- Ray Bowler, Vice President, Des Moines Macintosh User's Group

"Anyone who is serious about working with iWork 05 should have this book. While Apple actually does include printed manuals for Pages and Keynote 2 in the shrink-wrapped retail iWork box, they're pretty light on depth and detail, and not really up to the job of helping you get the best of this program...With a list price of $24.95, the book is a bit of a bargain, and also includes 45 days of free trial access to the O'Reilly Network's online Safari Bookshelf, where you can search thousands of top tech books, download whole chapters, cut and paste code samples, and find answers fast."
-- Charles Moore, AppleLinks

"Pogue, the New York Times computer columnist, is among the world's best explainers."
-- Kevin Kelly, co-founder of Wired

"I have reviewed quite a number of Missing Manual books and I am always impressed with them. David Pogue is a Mac master and the depth of his knowledge shines through."
-- Roger Bernau, ACT Apple User Group Incorporated
