Google Maps API v2 has invalidated several hacks in the book, and this is one of them. Fortunately, besides not working, it is reported to be unnecessary as the operation of overlays was reworked in v2 and is no longer so slow.


{292} the first code listing;
The final paragraph on the page and the listing immediately above it say that the image files are stored in a subdirectory called "maptiles". But the longer code listing above incorrectly shows the image files in two other places: in a subdirectory "nycmaps" and in no subdirectory at all.
