UNCONFIRMED errors and comments from readers: (3-5) Section on Mac OS X; Add the information that Mac OS X is ALREADY INSTALLED on the computer. after reading this, I thought everything you discussed seemed to already be on the computer but I had been given this CD for Mac OS X as though it were not. Fortunately I have a Mac savvy son-in-law who confirmed that Mac OS X was installed and the CD that came with the computer was only for emergencies. I suggest you add this information for us old folks and non-nerds who don't already know it. (6) "NOTE" at bottom; The note at the bottom refers to "Mac OS X: The Missing Manual, Leopard Edition" but the title should be "Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual" (12) caption for Figure 1-2; Page 12 - Figure 1.2 caption: misspelled "trackapds" (15) First "Note:"; There is a word missing ('has' perhaps?) in the following sentence: "The Macintosh [has] a Hibernate mode, just like the modern Windows PC..." (20) 8th paragraph; keyboards is missing the "d" ..(like laptop keyboars)... (23) First line; "Clear gets rid of the you've highlighted" the -> what or the -> the stuff {24} Line 1; The book states "The Fn key (lower-right on laptops and...", however my recently purchased macbook has it at the lower- left. {61} last paragraph; I'm not sure this is an error. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding out of my greenhorn ignorance. The paragraph starts with: "To remove a dock icon, just drag it away." The exceptions that are mentioned are items that cannot be removed. But I've noticed icons that can be removed, but not by dragging. For example, iChat. Dragging it out does nothing. But when I press on it, it gives me options including removal from the dock. {61} last paragraph; I submitted an erratum earlier, complaining that I couldn't remove icons off the dock by just dragging them off (and I went on to discuss it). I just found a note that explains my experience (and enabled me to remove them by dragging them off after all). I think something like this should have been included. (167) The "Tip"; In the instructions for getting Firefox's bookmarks directly from a file, there is "choosing Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks". There's no such thing. That should be "Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks", which is how you get to the Bookmark Manager. {206} 2nd paragraph from bottom; The reference to the missingmanuals.com Missing Cd for getting the instructions on transferring Quicken date from PC to the MAC appears to be missing. [206] 3rd paragraph of Quicken info; Paragraph refers to "this chapter's free PDF appendix from this book's "Missing CD" for the official manual on transferring Quicken data from Windows to the Mac. However, this free PDF appendix does not seem to be available on the Missing CD page on the website. (206) 9th paragraph (second from bottom of page); "For the official manual on transferring your Quicken data..." refers me to the Missing CD for this chapter (chapter 7). Going to the web site, I cannot find the Quicken info anywhere. I think it is missing and I NEED it. Please correct the book to more easily direct readers to site to find the Quicken PC to MAC transfer and let me know too. Thank you. [206] Quicken section; Repeated references to the missing manual CD - several items are NOT listed on the website - the quicken transfer information for example - here is NO chapter 7 PDF appendix on the site. (209) last paragraph; The last paragraph under the heading Windows Media Player describes a "free" solution which is to download and install Flip4Mac. I just visited their website; nothing is for free, it is all for sale. {220}3rd paragraph; The utility mentioned is "Parallel Workstation for Mac" when the "Workstation" product is for Windows & Linux. The "Desktop" product is for Mac. (266) The End of Time FAQ last paragraph; "If you ever need to retrieve files or folders from the older disk, rright-click..." The rright click is the typo. {303} Upper Half; There is no explanation of what 'Smart Mailboxes" are. They are missing in the photo (of the screen, lower half of the page) as well. As it appears on my screen, decending order: Mailboxes...Reminders...On my Mac...RSS Feeds....then SMART MAILBOXES. [474] 3rd paragraph (2nd complete paragraph); You say, about using Plain Talk Speech Recognition, that it's worth a 15 minute test drive, and you refer to: "Complete details are in the free downloadable appendix to this chapter, PlainTalkSpeechRecognition.pdf. It's available on this book's "missing CD" at www.missingmanuals.com". But there's no such thing included among the items in the "Missing CD". [481]last paragraph; The paragraph tells us to download the free appendix to the chapter, called Automator.pdf, yet there is no appendix to the chapter called this on the missing manuals website. (523) Partition box, 3 places; Text refers to fig. 16-29. No such figure. Likely should be Fig. 16-22. Also, text says "...a portion of the first partition is lightly shaded". No shading in Fig. 16-22. (861) "Keys to hold down" table; "D" key: Macbook and macbook pro user guides state that holding "D" during boot will put you into hardware check mode (works on MBP's i've seen, doesn't work on my macbook) http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook_Early2008_UserGuide.pdf page 46
