There is a problem where on same machines, the device icons don't appear on the desktop after booting
from the DVD.  The author found this workaround:

Okay I have found a workaround. What is happening is that even though the
files that my tarball extracts are owned by the knoppix user, the parent
Desktop directory is NOT owned by knoppix (presumably because the root user
at the time of boot is extracting it). So here is the workaround:

Open a terminal and type: chown knoppix:knoppix /home/knoppix/Desktop

Then click K->Knoppix->Utilities->Choose/Restart KNOPPIX Desktop and then
click "OK". This will restart the Knoppix desktop and you will see all of
the device icons.

Sorry for the confusion. For some reason this bug never showed up in my
previous tests including the one I just did with the iso on a VM, just on
this physical machine.
