I couldn't resist the title I gave this Short Cut because it captures Adobe's intention in giving Lightroom its name: Lightroom is a program made expressly for photographers. Although Photoshop got many of us out of the darkroom years ago, Lightroom is specifically designed to solve the major workflow roadblocks we face when moving to digital-namely, it offers intuitive and efficient image management and highly sophisticated nondestructive image adjustment.
In this revised and updated Short Cut, I introduce you to the Lightroom (Beta 3) workflow, its fives modules, and its particular appeal to RAW shooters. I also include coverage of the new Windows version of Lightroom.

Furthermore, although unfinished, the product is extremely productive. It will do quite a bit more than Camera Raw and, at least in the Macintosh version, performs its tasks at several times the speed and with a lot more workflow efficiency. (Currently, Adobe's new Windows version is in need of performance and feature improvements as it can be unbearably slow, especially when showing images at 100 percent resolution. Adobe assures us that this is a transitional state of affairs.)
At the time of this writing, Adobe had just released the Windows version, and had also upgraded its Mac version to run in a universal version that would take full advantage of Apple's new Intel CoreDuo processors. (Lightroom's major competitor, Apple Aperture, does not have a Windows version, and Lightroom is not the hardware hog Aperture is, either.)

A Good Overview for Beginners, March 02 2007
Adobe's new killer application (one of many), Lightroom is sure to be the new industry standard in digital photography workflow management. Now if that sounds like a mouthful to you, this application may be a little daunting when you first try it.
The interface of Lightroom is meant to be fairly intuitive to someone who is used to adjusting and working with digital photos, so when you first start using Lightroom, you are only presented with a very bare-bones help section. Ken Milburn authors a great replacement for that missing help section of Lightroom. If you are the type that likes to be shown the highlights of the program before delving into it, the shortcut is for you.
Whether you are using camera raw format, or simply trying to make your JPEG files look better, this title does a good job showing you how to look like a pro in just a matter of minutes. Being that the file is a PDF, some of the screenshots are a little hard to read because of compression, but are passable. You get the point between the text in the screenshot.
