Our look is the result of reader comments, our own experimentation, and feedback from distribution channels. The animal on the cover of Desktop Management with Novell ZENworks is a gelada. The gelada baboon is found primarily in highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea. A majority of the gelada population lives in the Semeien Mountains National Park in Ethiopia.

Gelada baboons live in groups of one male with several females and their offspring. These groups are referred to as one male units, or OMUs. Grooming is exhibited by all members of an OMU between the females and their male leader; it is very important to the social stability of the group. When the male is unable to to provide grooming attention to all of the females (due to over-capacity), unity within the group is lost. The unattended females form new groups with roaming males.

The females within the OMUs are generally the true leaders of the group. If an outside male attempts to take over the group by challenging the current male, the females may choose to support or oppose their own leader. Regardless of who wins the physical fight, the females will chase the unwanted male from the group with their own show of physical force. Alicia Cech designed the interior layout based on a series design by Nancy Priest. Mike Sierra implemented the design in FrameMaker 5.5.6. The text and heading fonts are ITC Garamond Light and Garamond Book.
