DHCP for Windows 2000 Review, February 07 2001
This book was very helpful in configuring both my small-scale home network (Windows 2000 Server) and the business network onwhich webhosting, filesharing, and ISP work is done (Windows 2000 Advanced Server). DHCP was very helpful in configuring the web and isp addresses on both network/ip address levels. On scale of 1-10 this book is a 8½ and a must-have for Win2k admins.

"Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP, is one of the handiest and most compelling technologies you can find for today's networks. I would even go so far as to call DHCP essential for any network larger than a handful of computers. As with any Microsoft networking technology, though, planning is of paramount importance with DHCP. Combine that with the nearly unlimited customizability of DHCP, and you may quickly feel the need for help. Enter Neall Alcott and 'DHCP for Windows 2000'...One of the strengths of this book, and something that struck me continually as I read through it, is the author's ability to cover DHCP-related topics in such a complete and comprehensive way in just a few pages...I feel confident in recommending this book to anyone responsible for working with DHCP. Whether you administer an existing DHCP infrastructure, or will be responsible for any part of designing or implementing DHCP in the future, this book will prove invaluable, I am sure. With a USD $34.95 list price, it can easily be a part of any technical library."

"As with any Microsoft networking technology planning is of paramount importance with DHCP. Combine that with the nearly unlimited customizability of DHCP, and you may quickly feel the need for help. Enter Neall Alcott and DHCP for Windows 2000. One of the strengths of this book, and something that struck me continually as I read through it, is the author's ability to cover DHCP-related topics in such a complete and comprehensive way in just a few pages. For instance, if you are not at all familiar with IPv6, simply reading the last chapter of this book will not only give you a basic understanding of the upcoming changes in DHCP, but you will also have a great foundation in the IPv6 technology itself. I feel confident in recommending this book to anyone responsible for working with DHCP. Whether you administer an existing DHCP infrastructure, or will be responsible for any part of designing or implementing DHCP in the future, this book will prove invaluable, I am sure. "DHCP for Windows 2000 explains how Windows 2000 implements the eminently handy protocol, and shows how to make adminstrative decisions about how your network provides DHCP services. The book does a great job of explaining what goes on behind the scenes, even when Windows 2000 tries to sugarcoat DHCP and related functions with wizard interfaces." --David Wall, amazon.com, April 2001
"Whether you are an experienced network administrator, or just starting out, DHCP for Windows 2000 gives you the necessary information to manage and configure IP addresses effectively." --Auntie Freda, Freelance Informer, March 23, 2001
