ByDreamweaver 4, The Missing Manual by David Sawyer McFarland Unconfirmed error reports are from readers. They have not yet been approved or disproved by the author or editor and represent solely the opinion of the reader. This page was updated October 25, 2002 Here's a key to the markup: [page-number]: serious technical mistake {page-number}: minor technical mistake : important language/formatting problem (page-number): language change or minor formatting problem ?page-number?: reader question or request for clarification UNCONFIRMED errors and suggestions from readers: {19} 2nd paragraph of "Tip:"; see step 2 on page 19 for details should read on page 27 (21) Tip: section; In the Tip: section on page 21, it reads "The best way ... in the tag selector (see page 16). The tag selector is first described on page 17. [24] 5th paragraph; Mentions "In this example, you'll use the folder you downloaded from this book's Web site;" Unfortunately, having gone through the O'Reilly site and the missing manuals site, like other users, I have been unable to find any downloadable tutorial files. ***Note***: www.sawmac.com/missing it is listed in the Preface on Page 9 {28} Number 1.; You are asking us to save a file by clicking into the document window. At this point you never told us to open a file first in order to save it. You will have some people wondering where is my document window. {55} 4 paragraph; or press F9 (Shift-F10) : incorrect or press Shift-F10 (F9) : correct (74) 2nd full paragrpah; "size 2 is 20% smaller than size 3" - this must be false if "Each size incremen t represents a 20% change in the font's size". If size 3 is 20% bigger than siz e 2, then size 2 is about 17% smaller than size 3. The term "size increment" se ems wrong since we don't increment from 3 to 2. In short, it's not clear whether size changes by 20% as we move from the standa rd of 3 in either direction, or whether every incrementation changes the size b y 20%. {120} 2nd Paragraph; Now see the Site window (page 387)should be open on your screen Should refer to page 376 (121 and 122) Whole page; The wording of the instructions in the tutorial for adding Rollovers imply that all the information to be entered in the browser fields for source of: "Origin al Image" "Rollover Image" and "When clicked go to URL" are contained in the Tu torial 1 "image" folder. I found all this material in the folder for Tutorial 2 and subsequently (via on -screen prompts) copied the files to the appropraite folders in Tutorial 1 whic h may have been completely unnecessary. Should this tutorial refer therefore to Tutorial 2 I wonder (not read further yet so I will not presume answer). (155) Just above the center of the page.; Line reads: 'In each case, a new column appears to the right of the current column.' Should read: 'In each case, a new column appears to the left of the current column.' {158} last paragraph; Text reads: If you split a cell into columns, everything in the cell winds up in the right column, with the new, empty column or columns to the left. Should read: If you split a cell into columns, everything in the cell winds up in the left column, with the new, empty column or columns to the right. [170] step 20; In the tutorial "Tables", the library items do not show up in the library window. I was unable to complete the tutorial. (213) "Power Users Clinic"; "When you choose the Use CSS Selector option in the new style window (figure 8-3)" It's actually figure 8-2 (264) 2nd Paragraph; "...as a name/value pair like this: =bob@bobville.com" should be something like "...as a name/value pair like this: custemail=bob@bobville.com" {268} Tip at top of page; Tip says that adding a form element on the page WITHOUT a form will automatically create a form. That doesn't work on my computer! You have to add the form. On the other hand, you can add the form later, then select/drag the elements "into" the form. {349} Tip item: Page 349 of the book states that the Go To Timeline Frame Behavior goes to the specified timeline frame and then stops. This is not correct. After the behavior causes the timeline to jump to the proper frame, the timeline resumes with its previous movement: if the timeline was playing when the behavior was activated, the timeline continues to play after going to the frame; if the timeline was stopped, this behavior causes the timeline to jump to the frame, and the timeline remains stopped. (515) 2nd column line 12; under Tutorials adding rollers, should be adding rollovers, {800} Tutorial step 2; The 'User Authentication' server behaviour 'Restrict Access To Page' already exists in 'admin.asp'. This results in a warning message-box appearing - "Only one instance of this behaviour is allowed on a page...". When I first opened up the exisiting behaviour, I received a message with options, one of which was to delete the behaviour.
