The URL given for the practice files is easy to misread. The capital letter 'I' which appears after the 'k' in the word 'LinkId' is easy to mistake for a lowercase 'L'.

Change:

section 9.3. Drawing and Modifying Shapes

Item 13 "Click a blank area of the drawing canvas to release the selection." is followed by an image of quick styles drop down button. Does not seem relevant to the point.

From reader Michael Kehoe:

"I am reading Microsoft Word 2010 Step by Step. On page 71 of this otherwise excellent book, the Latin name of the Mexican weeping bamboo is shown incorrectly.
The correct name is otatea acuminata aztecorum. The book shows it as obatea acuminata aztectorum. The Bamboo_start document gets closer but still shows it as otatea acuminata aztectorum."

The name needs to be corrected in all versions of the text and in the Bamboo_start practice file.

3rd paragraph, not counting boxed See Also info

Incorrect information!

The text reads, "You cannot increase or decrease the indent beyond the margins."

I've been using MS Word since 5.0 for DOS (1990) and you have always been able to set indents into the margins by using both negative numbers and, ever since WYSIWYG Word for Windows was introduced, by dragging the indent markers into the gray margin areas. Marvelous tool for adding inline symbols like explanation points, bombs, etc.

Note from the Author or Editor:
On page 96 of the printed book, at the end of the first paragraph, remove the sentence "You cannot increase or decrease the indent beyond the margins."

Boxed information about Clip Art

Inaccurate information!

The text reads, "The only thing the clips have in common is that they are free and available without any copyright restrictions."

In context, the description is about clip art in general, not specifically that which comes with Microsoft Office. Not all clip art is free nor is all available without copyright restrictions.

I bring this to your attention because too many people unintentionally violate copyrights because of misinformation like this.

Note from the Author or Editor:
In the About Clip Art sidebar on page 150 of the printed book, please change "Clip art comes in many...." to "The clip art available from within Word 2010 comes in many..."
