Bullet points |
In each example, the second IPv6 address is wrong.
The first IPv6 address in each example starts with "2001::ce49:7601". That means that "ce49:7601" is the hex version of the Teredo server's public IPv4 address, i.e. 206.73.118.1. If all the machines use the same Teredo server, all of their Teredo addresses should begin with the same 64 bits. Instead, the second IPv6 address in each example uses a private IPv4 address; even if they deliberately used a different server, nobody else on the internet would be able to route to it!
* Headquarters: "2001::0a0a:64fe"
This corresponds to 10.10.100.254
* Branch 1: "2001::0a0a:0afe"
This corresponds to 10.10.10.254
* Branch 2: "2001::0a0a:14fe"
This corresponds to 10.10.20.254
* Branch 3: "2001::0a0a:1efe"
This corresponds to 10.10.30.254
Also, those private addresses don't correspond to any of the private networks listed on page 302.
Finally, the first IPv6 address for each branch office shouldn't have a space after the ::
So, the bullet points should be:
* Headquarters: 2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:9bfe through
2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff: f5ff:9b01
* Branch 1: 2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:fffe through
2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff: f5ff:ff01
* Branch 2: 2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:f5fe through
2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:f501
* Branch 3: 2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:ebfe through
2001::ce49:7601:e866:efff:f5ff:eb01
Note from the Author or Editor: The reader is correct
In the second set of bullet points (After "for example, be the following:" please replace "through 2001::0a0a:xxxx with "through 2001::ce49:7601". Do this for all four bullet points.

5th paragraph |
A computer can't be its own default gateway. By convention, the router in a subnet typically has the IP address x.y.z.1
"For example, if you want to configure the Local Area Connection interface with an IPv4 address 10.0.0.11, a subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and a default gateway 10.0.0.11, you enter the following command:
netsh interface ipv4 set address "local area connection" static 10.0.0.11 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.11"
Should be:
"For example, if you want to configure the Local Area Connection interface with an IPv4 address 10.0.0.11, a subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and a default gateway 10.0.0.1, you enter the following command:
netsh interface ipv4 set address "local area connection" static 10.0.0.11 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.1"
The computer could be configured to use itself as a DNS server, but it's more likely that you'd want the default gateway (e.g. a router) to be the DNS server too.
"If you also wanted to set the DNS server address as 10.0.0.11, you enter the following command:
netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "local area connection" static 10.0.0.11"

The Deployment Workbench as described in the book, has the layout of the version included in MDT 2008, which is different from the version it says it's describing: the version included in MDT 2010.
There are only two items left. In stead of:

Distribution Share

Deploy
There are only:
Information Center
Deployment Shares
There is a complete reorganization of the way Deployment Workbench works. For example, the checklist mentioned in the text is no longer there.
Note from the Author or Editor: The text describes the MDT 2010 tool at the time the book was written (not the MDT 2008). The tool has since been upgraded. This entire section needs to be rewritten, which isn't possible before the reprint. Please add the following tho the end of the MORE INFO element on page 148:

Missing section |
Chapter 2, Lesson 2, Exercise 2 has been deleted from corrected reprint edition but there appears to be no recognition of this in the rest of the book.
For example Para 1 on pg 105 says "You need to have completed the practice exercises in Lesson 1 before attempting this practice"
Why - all it involves now is creating a VHD and doing nothing with it!
Pg 114 Para 2 states"In particular you need to have installed the Windows Automated Installation KIt (Windows AIK) and deployed an offline image of the Canberra computer on a bootable virtual hard disk (VHD).
Well, without exercise 2 on what was presumable page 108, you won't have done that and won't know how to!
Page 140 para 4 "In this exercise, you use the ImageX tool to mount the system image MyImage.wim that you installed on teh vhd to which you allocated drive letter W:" - only, we didn't did we!
etc.etc.etc...
Where can I get a copy of the what exercise 2 should have looked like? Even with errors it can't have been worse than simply not being there at all. Am I to understand this was deliberate?!
Note from the Author or Editor: Page 114. Delete "and deployed an offline image of the Canberra computer on a bootable virtual hard disk (VHD)
Page 140. Change "mount the system image Myimage.wim that you
installed on the VHD to which you allocated drive letter W"
to
"mount a copy of the install image install.wim".
Page 141.
Add a new step 4 making the current step 4 step 5, the current step 5 step 6 and so on.
4. Copy the file install.wim from the sources directory of the Windows 7 installation media to w:. Rename the file myimage.wim

first full paragraph after bullet points and the paragraph after that |
I can't confirm if this is a difference from RTM to SP1, but the book clearly states and repeats the statement that "Debugging Mode" gets you into Windows PE and then the Recovery Environment (RE), but this is not accurate. There is an option at the top of the F8 boot menu to "Repair Your Computer" that fits the description on this page, but it is not through the debugging mode option.
Note from the Author or Editor: Quite a bit of change here:
On page 750, before the first (Safe Mode) bullet point inster the Bullet point:
Repair Your Computer Shows a list of system recovery tools you can use to repair startup problems, run diagnostics, or restore your system. This option is available only if the tools are installed on your computer's hard disk.
Change the Debugging Mode buller pont on page 751 to:
Debugging Mode Starts Windows in an advanced troubleshooting mode intended for IT professionals and system administrators.
In the para on p751 following the bullet points (just before the System Recovery Options heading), delete the second and thitd sentences, leaving only the first.

all that apply; each answer forms part of a complete solution.)
A. Share each Data folder.
B. Create a library named Sci_Data.
C. Add each instrument's separate Data folder to the Sci_Data library.

There seems to be a typo in this phrase, since 255.255.225.0 can not be a valid subnet mask. Subnet masks consist of contiguous bits so if this was just a typo it should either be 255.255.224.0 (/19) or a 255.255.255.0 (/24)
The next subnet listed is also invalid: 225.255.254.0 which should probably be 255.255.254.0
Again, probably a typo...

Windows 7 Home Premium Section final line |
The text states that Windows 7 Home Premium supports two physical processors and in actual fact only supports 1.
PCs with multiple processors (CPUs):
Commercial servers, workstations, and other high-end PCs may have more than one physical processor. Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate allow for two physical processors, providing the best performance on these computers. Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, and Home Premium will recognize only one physical processor.

Creating a Striped Volume with Partity (RAID-5) |
Windows 7 does not support creating a RAID-5 software RAID. I just tried it myself and this options is greyed out. After some research I found a Blog Post from Dale Qiao MSFT who confirmend with the product team, that only Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 Operating Systems support RAID-5 software RAIDs.
You can find the post as a reference here:
