Thanks for brilliant book and maybe not a 'Serious technical mistake' but needs extra instruction.
Using 1&1 hosting requires extra steps. Resolved via Blogger support query 'How do I use a custom domain name for my blog?' which explains how to change the 'CNAMEs for various registrars'.

Function name is ShowAlertBox however when calling the function, ShowAlert is used an the word "Box" has been omited. In this case, the code will not work.

The section on <embed> tag refers consistently to an "autoplay" attribute. This is not allowed by my HTML4 validator and has no effect in the browsers I test my pages with, primarily IE8 but also Firefox (and within Linux) and Safari.

I believe that the correct attribute is "autostart". This is allowed and it does work. I find this in the source code of other site's pages.

(I have been careful to use <!DOCTYPE html> at the top of my source code.)

More detailed discussion of the height and width attributes and how to avoid a video display coming up for a bare music file would have been worthwhile. As would comment on the type attribute which is in your examples but seems to be little used and is, perhaps, unnecessary.

I still think you have produced a great book!

I bought it because of the way it related to the real world, with HTML5 coming soon, and to replace older books on HTML4. I have not been disappointed. I am in the process of updating my site www.saundrecs.co.uk

Many Thanks

John

"summary" is included as one of 10 elements specified in the style "super-rule" at the top of page 536. But bottom of page 535 states there are only 9 block semantic elements. Also, <summary> is not included in the glossary of semantic elements provided in AppB. Is it correct that "summary" is included in the super-rule on p 536? In which case it should be also included in the glossary, and bottom of p535 amended to refer to 10 elements.
