Internet discussion lists

An email address is all it takes to participate in online discussions. Once you have subscribed, all messages in the discussion will be sent to you. You can choose to participate or be a "lurker." Generally, these lists are dedicated to a specific topic, and you should respect the boundaries of the discussion. You will find people very willing and happy to help you address specific needs and questions.

The process of subscription is easy. You simply send a message to a server address, then you will get a response saying that you have been added to the list, or asking you to reply with a confirmation. You will also be sent guidelines and options for the list. It is often possible, for instance, to receive the day's discussion as a single file, rather than having your mailbox fill with each individual message.
