Tim,

What about a 1001 series on
shell script fragments
vb fragments
awk fragments
c fragments
sql fragments
perl fragments
c++ fragments
etc.

Ian,

As you may have seen, we recently released the Perl Cookbook, which may be what you're looking for. It includes "recipes" for solving all kinds of common problems in Perl. This book has been a huge hit...and you may be right that we should do the same thing for other languages.

So let's make this an open call to our readers: if you've taken a look at the Perl Cookbook, and think you could do something similar for Java, or C++, or VB, or shell scripting, or JavaScript, or... send in a proposal.

The book doesn't need to be as massive as the Perl Cookbook, but we would definitely want the same level of expertise to be displayed. But since Tom and Nat, the authors of the Perl Cookbook, have done a lot of work on defining the format and scope of a book like this, follow-on books should be easier.
