How about "XFree86 in a nutshell"? I know you've got all these X books but the old dates (pre-1994?) scare me away. Besides, you've got a dozen and I only need one -- at least, until I've figured out what else I need to know.
You're absolutely right. We've been telling ourselves we've really got to dig back into X and figure out what we ought to be doing to put together a compact book (or couple of books) on XFree86. We'll keep you posted as this actually gets underway.
