I just finished reading O'Reilly's "Swift Pocket Reference" by Anthony Gray. This book is the go-to shortcut for existing programmers to get up to speed on Apple's new programming language Swift. Apple's own book on Swift is 458 pages of very well written explanation of the new language's features. As an experienced developer I don't need all the detail that Apple offers in their volume. Mr. Gray has provided the perfect balance of useful information and brevity! Please visit my blog to read the rest of the review. Full Review  >

This is where Swift Pocket Reference comes in, you get a logical and concise topic-by-topic reference to all the important language concpets, from Optionals, to working with Dictionaries, Extensions, Protocols, Tuples, Generics and so forth. You quickly skim the topic of interest, recall the general idea, look at the provided sample and off you go. In good doses, you can really make good use of this book. Full Review  >

As disclosed by the title of this book (Swift Pocket Reference) it is a reference work rather than a programming guide of the kind designed to teach you to program for the iOS or OS X platforms. It is not concerned with Cocoa frameworks or working with Objective-C. Instead it aims to provide the most information it can about Swift in the smallest space possible, tabulating where it can and ordering under strict headings. Full Review  >
