Re Sales Receipts usage.

The paragraphs on pages 218 and 339 are misleading. These sections stress that the Sales Receipt is only for payments in full:

Pg 218 bottom of page (italics as shown in the book)
Sales Receipts
“But this form is suitable only if your customers pay the full amount at the time of the sale—for example, in a retail store, restaurant or beauty salon.”

Pg 339 paragraph 3 –
“When your customers pay in full at the time of the sale”…“(Sales receipts work only when customers pay in full, because that type of sales form can’t handle previous customer payments and balances.)

However, these sections recommend using the Sales Receipt to record advance/pre/down payments (retainers):

Pg 218 Table 10-1
Second action on table “Accept payments in advance” x under “Sales Receipt”

Pg 244
Recording Prepayments
“When a customer hands you a check for a deposit or a down payment”…“record the prepayment in QuickBooks…a sales receipt can not only record a prepayment in QuickBooks”

I want to thank you for the detail in your index. I’ve been able to find answers to many questions.
