Most employers forget the fact that most employees have a family—a family who supports the employee when he or she works long hours or is under particular stress. A wonderful and often quite unexpected gesture is to take the time to thank the family of that employee for its support. Try some of these ways to show your appreciation:
Write a thank-you note to the employee's significant other after a bout of frequent travel or a few late nights of work.
Send a turkey or cheesecake home with each employee at holiday time (many companies used to do this, but the tradition seems to have fallen off over time).
