8. Check Compatibility and Update Third-Party Software

Every major OS X upgrade breaks some software. Most software makers are very attuned to Apple’s moves, and since Apple has provided advanced information about Mountain Lion to developers for several months, many upgrades have already been released. I strongly recommend that you check out at least the software you rely on the most and check with that software’s developer for updates. If you originally bought the software from the Mac App Store, that process is going to be as easy as choosing App Store from the Apple menu and clicking the Updates button in the App Store’s toolbar.
