James Dyson became obsessed with the idea of a new kind of vacuum cleaner based on cyclonic separation, famously producing 5,126 prototypes before deciding that he was satisfied with the 5,127th attempt.
‘I’d seen an industrial sawmill, which uses something called a cyclonic separator to remove dust from the air,’ Dyson told Inc. magazine. ‘I thought the same principle of separation might work on a vacuum cleaner.
