4.1 CHARGED PARTICLE DETECTION
e charged particles from the neutron-induced nuclear reactions could be
detected by a counter telescope similar to the one described by Kuo et al.
(1961), consisting of three proportional gas counters followed by a scintilla-
tion CsI(Tl) counter. e scintillation counter was used as the energy counter.
Its resolution for 14 MeV protons was ~4%. e proportional counter closest
to the E counter was a dE/dx counter. e width at the half-maximum of the
distribution of the energy losses for 12.8 MeV deuterons in the dE/dx counter
