Little p, Big E
Once again, the Japanese and their business principles can serve as role models for us. They are incredibly diligent about planning and believe that is one of the reasons they’ve been able to dominate many business categories around the world. They believe that American businesses are too busy shooting from the hip and not thinking through the new things they attempt.
Planning leads to excellent execution (little e), and you owe your team good planning (the big P). You should also involve them in that planning to ensure its success. On a 3 × 5 card, write: “To fail to plan is to plan to fail.” Review the card occasionally to remind yourself how important planning is to your, and their, success.
