Retention: Annual Revenues Stink
Try to picture a boss or supervisor who’s unhappy with some aspect of your job performance but waits almost a year to review it with you. What a tragedy. All too often, annual performance reviews become “save up and zap” sessions where managers download on the people they’re reviewing. They rip the meat from the bones and demoralize the folks being reviewed.
Make your performance reviews meaningful and useful. On a 3 × 5 card, write the following: “Performance reviews are as much to coach as to review. Do them as needed, not once a year.” Put this card in front of the employee cards to remind you. Remember to use your employee performance cards.
