You Must Know You Don’t Know
If someone called you “ignorant,” my bet is that you would be somewhere between hurt and devastated, or livid and furious, depending upon your emotional bent. In actuality, being ignorant can be a huge breakthrough to improvement. It can open new horizons when we understand Webster dictionary’s definition of ignorance, which is “to be unlearned.”
On a 3 × 5 card write: “School is never out for the pro” (from Cavett Robert, founder of the National Speakers Association). It’s okay for you or your employees to not know the answer to a question. It’s not okay for you or them to fail to discover the answer. Let this card remind you of that, and use this card to talk to your team about this concept.
