Editing machines meeting these requirements can be divided into two main groups – upright machines like the Moviola, and table machines like the Steenbeck.

Upright machines: Moviola

The Hollywood Moviola is perhaps the oldest established editing machine. The word Moviola is a trade name, the name of an American editing machine. It is so widely used in the U.S.A. however, that it is now almost the generic term for any kind of motorised editing machine. The standard Moviola is in international use.
