Research is the key to selling any kind of photography. If you want your work to appear in a consumer publication, you’re in luck. Magazines are the easiest market to research because they’re available on newsstands and at the library and at your doctor’s office and … you get the picture. So, do your homework. Before you send your query or cover letter and samples, and before you drop off your portfolio on the prescribed day, look at a copy of the magazine. The library is a good place to see sample copies because they’re free, and there will be at least a year’s worth of back issues right on the shelf.
