IN THIS CHAPTER, WE’LL LEARN SketchUp’s native (built-in) tools and techniques through seven projects: the icon, a nameplate, chain-link bracelet, pet collar tag, coffee mug, pencil holder, and travel mug. All are modeled with Make, the free version.
Before we start, be aware that all models are not 3D-printable. Just because you can create something on a screen doesn’t mean that you can physically print it. For example, a printable model must
■ Have a minimum thickness
■ Have no sharp edges
■ Have no manifold edges (these are edges shared by more than two planes)
■ Have no holes, even tiny ones
■ Be one solid piece
