Chapter 19

Spectrum and RF Characteristics

Abstract

Spectrum flexibility is a key feature of the LTE radio-access technology, including the possibility for deployment in differently-sized spectrum allocations, in diverse frequency ranges, and in both paired and unpaired spectrum. This flexibility, while relatively simple from a baseband perspective, has an impact on the RF implementation in terms of filters, amplifiers, and all other RF components that are used to transmit and receive the signal. In this chapter, the definition of mobile and base station RF requirements for taking this flexibility into account is discussed for terminals, base stations, and relays, including multi-standard and multi-band base stations.
