Dual connectivity
Abstract
This chapter outlines dual connectivity—a feature where UE and RAN can receive/transmit data over two base stations simultaneously through providing the ability to utilize radio resources provided by two independently operating Cell Groups. Those cell groups may be controlled by two different radio nodes connected to one single core network. This concept is designed to increase user throughput, improve mobility robustness and provide load-balancing support between RAN nodes. This chapter provides a detailed description of dual connectivity for NR access Cell Group and E-UTRA Cell groups for both 5G with EPC and 5GS.
