PRINCIPLE 1: ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONFLICT

Conflict is generally not a word that most of us like to apply to ourselves. We may want to avoid making something out of nothing. We can fear that being in conflict with someone else means that we are not a nice person or that we are in some way weak. In reality, as we have established, what happens when we don’t accept that we have a conflict situation can be that the conflict escalates or the behaviour of those involved deteriorates. This can be exemplified in a number of scenarios:

  • Every day A asks B not to take A’s milk at work. B ignores A and A puts a padlock on the fridge door. A and B are called in to see the supervisor.
