Deconstructing Smart Contracts
Recently I read an interview of an executive who claimed that “smart contracts” have been in existence for over 20 years. This executive’s company had just added a smart contract feature in an enterprise system they license to the supply chain industry. As I read the rest of the interview, I quickly realized that the executive was defining smart contract as any form of contract in electronic form, which obviously existed long before 2014. Word plays like this are becoming more common, and truly nonsensical, among executives who are desperate to enter into the blockchain game, trying hard not to distinguish between smart contracts and other forms of electronic contracts.
