I love factories! I’ve loved them since my childhood when I would go with my father to buy fabric at the weaving mills in Reutlingen, Germany, and when I toured the steel plants with my relatives in the Ruhrgebiet, and later, when I hung around the assembly lines at a Mercedes-Benz factory as an engineering intern at ITT. The efficient clatter of the machines, the teamwork of those controlling them, and the sheer breadth of the operations fascinated me.
