9. Alternative Housing
At one time, the options available to aging people were few. They would stay in their own homes as long as they were capable of caring for themselves, and when they could no longer do so, they moved in with their children. If their children were not willing or able to care for their parents, the elders went to a nursing home, a process that prompted the dark humor one sees occasionally on bumper stickers which read: “Be kind to your kids, they pick your nursing home.”
