Best Practices for Record Capturing1
Generally, to “capture” means to place records (or data) that an organization has created into an information management system and to record the existence of such records into the system.2
According to ISO 15489, capturing has three essential purposes:
• Establishing a relationship between the record, the creator, and the business context that originated it—and ensuring that the records are trustworthy, reliable, and authentic. As a result, it is critical to capture a record in its context as close to the event it documents as possible (a significant portion of that context is captured in the form of metadata).
