Variety in library publishing

This chapter describes different types of library publishing. First, different types of libraries are described, and then publishing is explained through the basic grouping of libraries into national, research and university, special, school and public. Some examples of library associations as publishers are also given. Major kinds of print and electronic publications are listed in respect to this grouping with emphasis on the role of university and research libraries because of the very dynamic changes that have taken place within this group of libraries since the 1980s. Digital libraries are described as a special kind of library because they are a publishing project in themselves.
