6.1 Worldwide Variability in Emissions Regulations
Chapter 5 discussed the emissions regulations that apply to the global farm machinery industry. While EU, U.S., Canadian, and Australian regulations are virtually identical (with the exception of EU laws being applied sooner), most of the rest of the world has adopted much less stringent emissions laws. Japan currently utilizes the equivalent of U.S. Tier 4 Interim regulations (see Chapter 5 for more detail on the EPA’s tier system for emissions control), but has proposed a shift to Tier 4 Final in the future.
