Citizens’ Social Charter for India

PREAMBLE

We the citizens of the Republic of India,

Reaffirming our abiding commitment to the secular and democratic principles and provisions of the Constitution of India;

Reaffirming the principles and declared commitments of the SAARC Charter, the Declaration of the 11th SAARC Summit (2002), committing the region to poverty eradication, and the Kathmandu Understanding of 2002;

Recalling that the solemn commitment to the peace, stability, amity and progress of the region enshrined in the SAARC Charter rests on the conviction that regional cooperation among the countries of South Asia is mutually beneficial, desirable and necessary for the well being and progress of the peoples of the region;
