The first part of this book focused on basic principles of astrology. It is important to clarify many of the basic meanings of planets as they relate to traditional astrology and financial astrology. The angular relationships between these planets determine the basic themes that will unfold on a personal level and in financial markets. The concept of a zodiac sign is important to determine human behavior and to track cycles degree by degree as they unfold in financial markets. A sign was clarified to be a basic 30-degree region of a planet's 360-degree orbit. It was demonstrated that transits can be represented visually on the horizon, as three-dimensional isometric views in space, or on the traditional 360-degree wheel.

Planetary transits can influence financial markets. An efficiency test can be used to determine the behavior of a market around a specific transit. It was demonstrated (using an efficiency test) that the market tends to bottom around the New Moon.
