Nonintegrated Pointwise Refinement Guides
Purpose of Lesson To develop and demonstrate high-resolution pointwise refinement guides that are functions of the differences between the nodal values of the finite element stresses and the smoothed stresses extracted from the augmented finite difference result using nine-node central difference templates.
The use of pointwise values of stress and/or strain quantities enables us to develop a variety of metrics as refinement guides and termination criteria. In fact, we can use one metric as the refinement guide and another as the termination criteria. The availability of a variety of measures means that we can tailor metrics to the problem being solved.
