Monitoring and Controlling Process Group

The Monitoring and Controlling Process Group consists of those processes required to track, review, and regulate the progress and performance of the project; identify any areas in which changes to the plan are required; and initiate the corresponding changes. In a number of the monitoring and control processes you will see similar inputs: the project management plan and work performance data. The outputs will include work performance information, updates, and change requests. Look for this pattern as you go through the various processes.

Another pattern you may notice is how the work performance data from the Direct and Manage Work process is an input to nine of the control processes. From the control processes the work performance data becomes an output as work performance information. The work performance information becomes an input to Monitor and Control Project Work. Through that process it becomes an output as work performance reports. Figure 20-1 demonstrates this progression of data to information to reports.
