Image Maps

When is a picture or image more than just something pretty or colorful on your Web page? In truth, there are a number of different situations in which an image is actually put into service to do more than just sit on a page. In this section, you'll learn about a special type of image called an image map, which enables you to transform a graphic into a navigational tool.

When you create an image map, you separate different areas of an image into regions (called hotspots) that link to individual pages. For example, suppose your Web site features reviews of various types of computer equipment. In that case, you could use an image of a computer to create an image map.
