Chapter 5. Hardware Firewalls

This chapter introduces you to a hardware device known as a Broadband EtherFast cable/DSL router. In addition to several other functions, these devices provide the services of a personal hardware firewall. This chapter shows you how to install and configure a personal hardware firewall using the Linksys BEFSR41 EtherFast cable/DSL router as an example.

In addition to physical setup, you will see how the firewall is configured using a standard Web browser. You also learn how to configure the logging of both inbound and outbound firewall traffic and how to access and view these logs.
