functions. Lean project work to continually root out waste in 2012 reduced inven-
tory of supplies on hospital floors by over $40,000, without compromising quality,
safety, or staff productivity. Systematic waste reduction efforts in the surgery supply
chain, involving 404 procedure types and 93 surgeons, resulted in a reduction of
over 37,000 individual supplies, decreasing the weight of pans carried to and from
