As indicated in Figure 4.1, all Virginia Mason leaders at the supervisor level and
up are expected to be able to define creativity and innovation, and apply some basic
concepts, as well as recognize and apply specific methods and tools for generating,
testing, and implementing innovative ideas in their work areas. We will see examples
of this in a later chapter on innovation in daily work. All leaders are also expected
to be able to use an evidence- grounded framework for assessing and enhancing the
culture for innovation in their workgroups (the subject of the next chapter).
