Chapter 11. Cooperative Game Play
NOT ALL MULTIPLAYER games pit players against each other. Cooperative game play allows players to work together as teammates to accomplish a common goal. This type of game play can offer challenges that are not possible in single player games or in competitive style multiplayer games.
With few exceptions (like Army of Two), multiplayer games do not offer purely cooperative game play. Instead, cooperative elements are tacked on to the existing game design. For example, an FPS may have a “Capture the Flag” mode in addition to the standard “Deathmatch.”
