Chapter 16. User Homes
AS HAS BEEN discussed in previous chapters, virtual worlds are social networks. At their core, they allow for player-to-player interaction and self-expression. We’ve outlined how players can interact in worlds and establish relationships, and we’ve seen how they can express their individuality through the customization of their own avatars. There is another feature common to most virtual worlds that allows for self expression: user homes.
An avatar’s user home is their own space in the world, customizable using the items found in that avatar’s inventory. Avatars can also invite buddies into their homes to show off the items they’ve either purchased or received for completing a quest or for playing games. Unlike the customized ...
