Physical Indications

Physical signs of domestic violence include noticeable marks such as bruises, scratches, and handprints from violent grabs (supposedly due to clumsiness or an accident). The victim, anxious to hide the marks, will sometimes come to work wearing a turtleneck or a long-sleeve top to hide the handprints on their arms and wrists, or wear long pants in warm weather to hide kick marks on their calves. Some women put on a great deal of makeup in an attempt to cover or redirect attention from facial injuries.
