Part III. Understanding Basic Photoshop Concepts

IN THIS PART

Part III marks the transition from Lightroom to Photoshop — from the Production Workflow to the Creative Workflow. One of the things you're going to notice as you move forward is that there's an awful lot going on in Photoshop CS3. That's because Photoshop is one of the most powerful image-editing applications available. This kind of power leads to a complexity that can be intimidating for new users. However, once you understand some of the basics, the way Photoshop works makes lots of sense.

The chapters in this part focus on those basic concepts. We begin with the most fundamental concept — opening files — and work our way up to creating complex selections. By the end of Part III you'll be ready to move into some of the more advanced techniques in Parts IV and V that make Photoshop the perfect tool for your Creative Workflow.
