General
The opening category of the Edit Role Settings dialog box offers three basic options: the capabil-
ity to publish files, the Role Description, and the Role Home Page. Users are either able to publish
their Contribute-modified page directly to the site or not; if the Allow Users To Publish Files option
is disabled, the user must submit the page for review to another user, typically one in a managerial
capacity. The reviewer has the option of sending it back to the user with comments, publishing it, or
submitting it to another user for review.
Users see the Role Description when they initially connect. It is, generally, used to explain who com-
prises the role and what restrictions are applied; this information is entered directly into the Role
Description field as shown in Figure 31-17.

For most roles, the right to publish files directly—set in the General category of the Edit Role Settings dialog—
is a key defining element.
